Abel Gonzalez wasn’t slowed down by the pandemic: ‘If you’re going to be a pro, you have to be ready.’

Elizabeth Morris/NBC He always keeps his eyes on the prize and his heart on his motivation. Abel Gonzalez is an American Ninja Warrior competitor who is always dedicated to his mission. In his now seven years on the show, Abel approaches every course with something bigger than just buzzers on his mind. It could be his family, his students, or his community. For season 12, Abel had two of his Axios Warrior Academy students with him, Holly Cavazos and Gloria Orta. He spoke glowingly of both their skills and was so proud to compete alongside them. They were all there […]

Season 12’s format plays right into Ethan Swanson’s strengths

Elizabeth Morris/NBC He’s been fast before. Now it really comes in handy. Due to the pandemic, American Ninja Warrior was unable to travel during 2020, meaning the Las Vegas National Finals are a no-go. Instead, the show will wrap up with head-to-head races on the Power Tower. That, along with the fact that only the top 12 advance during each Qualifiers regardless of buzzer-status, means speed is huge this year. Previously, a Ninja needed an intense amount of endurance to have a chance to survive Stage Three. Now, they’ll have to be fast, really fast. When we heard about the […]

Nick Hanson wrapped up his season with the Mega Wall

Elizabeth Morris/NBC $10,000 isn’t a bad consolation prize! Nick Hanson had a bittersweet night on American Ninja Warrior. He was the first competitor to hit the Mega Wall, and the first competitor to not advance even though he hit a buzzer. Night two of the Qualifiers gave us a stacked field of Ninjas who not only had the strength to reach the buzzer, but the speed to get there quickly. That highlighted one of the season’s new format changes. Only the top 12 can advance. Hitting the buzzer isn’t a guarantee any more. Even a Mega Wall buzzer. Nick put […]

Elizabeth Morris/NBC You’ll see many of this season’s competitors wearing the group’s logo on the course. Mike Wright on his first buzzer, ‘I didn’t have the experience in the past, but I do now’

Elizabeth Morris/NBC After the ups and downs, he’s poised to make season 12 his year. It’s about time, Mike! That’s what we were shouting as we watched Mike Wright score his first buzzer on American Ninja Warrior’s season 12 premiere. Mike is quite memorable for always wearing his orange and white Speedo on the course (he’s a diving coach). But that outfit can sometimes distract viewers from the very serious work he’s put into the course. Season 12 marks Mike’s fourth year on the show. In season seven, he left the competition in Qualifying. Back in season 10, his training […]
